PNEUMONIA-- DEFINITION- Pneumonia is an infection of one or both lungs. RISK FACTORS- cigarette smoking, pre-existing lung disease, steroid therapy, old age, weakened immune system, bed ridden, alchohol consumption. DIAGNOSTIC TEST- clinical signs, sputum testing, x-ray, ct scan, brochosocpy, aspiration of lung fluid PREVENTION- better nutrition, stop smoking, respiratory hygiene/ exercise, vaccination. TREATMENT- hospital admission, antibiotics, oxygen supplementation, chest physiotherapy.
