HERPES ZOSTER- definition- Is an acute viral infection of the nerve cells and surrounding skin caused by varicella zoster virus. CAUSES- decrease of immunity- stress, cqancer treatment, immunosupression drugs, HIV/AIDS. DIAGNOSIS- clinical signs and symptoms, blood test. TRANSMISSION- direct contact with rash, incubation period-10-22 days, risk age group>50yrs. SYMPTOMS- headache, discomfort, body pain, fever, painful rash,itching,tingling sensation, fluid filled blisters. TREATMENT- antiviral medications, painkillers, cold water compressors, calamine lotion application. PREVENTION- zoster vaccine(zostavax)
